Sentences of security

A solo exhibition by the Cuban-Danish artist Yorky Mencia Garcia

September 26th – December 15

Yorky Mencia Garcia

Bien Contemporary is pleased to present Sentences of Security, a light and space exhibition featuring neon, glass, and mixed media works by the Cuban-Danish artist Yorky Mencia Garcia. This exhibition features a selection of six light installations and sculptures of the artist’s latest exploration with neon lights and glass. The works explore recent narratives of war and security through artistic representation.

The title of the exhibition suggests the artist’s works on view are influenced by his observation of an increasingly polarized world and the need to assess all historical canons critically. According to the artist, “Current narratives of security are often ahistorical, partial, emotional, simplistic, illegible while strident and as my latest work.” The works create an immersive experience that takes the spectator through a journey that explores the visual forms of narratives of security in their most sensorial and psychological forms.
